One of the most rewarding things you may ever experience
is planning your own wedding and bringing to fruition all
of the grand ideas that you can imagine for such a special
occasion. Designing your own wedding invitations is something
that many people fantasize about and by following some
simple, yet tasteful guidelines, you can create that special
something that is unique and memorable. Not only will this
allow you to display your creative abilities, it will be
a cherished keepsake for your special guests. Remember to
keep it simple and pay attention to these special hints:
1. Understand what "look" you want to achieve and how you want to be remembered on your special day. This
will take a bit of research. Find out how the professional
designers incorporate different elements in their invitations and utilize what works best for you. By adding aspects of
your own personality to the design, you can create something
unique and memorable.
2. The key to great design is seeking simplicity in the
layout and overall presentation. Make sure to keep all photos,
text and other objects in a harmonious balance and make
the entire presentation easy on (and pleasing to) the eye.
You can add additional depth to your design by incorporating
physical objects such as ribbons, lace and rings. This will
also provide a focal break and introduce a three dimensional
component.
3. Often, a main focal point such as a picture or any other
key component of the design, looks best when it is not placed
in the center of the layout. You will achieve a more professional
look by placing such items slightly off-center and you will
reap the added benefit of having ample room to fill in any
text or other design elements.
4. Colors are one of the most important design considerations.
By using different shades of color that are closely related,
yet complimentary, you can achieve some very satisfying
results. When designing your color schemes for your wedding
invitation keep in mind the colors that are incorporated
in any photos or other objects you wish to utilize plus
the color stock of the paper you wish to use and the color
of the text itself. Legibility is perhaps the most important
consideration. Remember to always keep it simple and pleasing
to the eye.
One last caution: Be honest with yourself about your abilities.
If, after a couple tries, you honestly do not believe your
final product looks as professional as it should--if it
honestly looks a bit amateurish--admit defeat and go instead
for professionally-done invitations. A wedding doesn't happen
everyday and sometimes you might just have to decide to
leave matters in the hands of the pros.
But by all means, give it a try. Creating your own wedding
invitations is fun and challenging but can be difficult.
However, if you remember these simple guidelines, the final
result will be something that you and your guests can treasure
for a lifetime. |
