Wine Bottles and Wedding Favors

It has become tradition to take what can seem like many thousands of pictures at a wedding so that the bride and groom can remember their special day. But the guests of the bride and groom also want to remember the wedding, so it has become custom to give out wedding favors as a keepsake. Sugared nuts wrapped in an elegant wrapping were the standard gift in the past, but today couples are giving their guests wine bottles as mementos of their wedding.

Because of the popularity of this gift, many companies purchase unlabeled bottles of wine from wine and spirit bottlers. The companies then offer the bride and groom different types of wines and customizable labels that the bride and groom can personalize. Once a choice has been made the company the prints them out and places them on the bottle.

Considering that a cheap bottle of wine can cost around five or ten dollars plus the number of guests you have at your wedding reception you could think that individual wine bottles would be a very expensive gift, especially if you are paying for other alcohol to be served at the dinner. In order to cut costs cancel the open bar and just give the bottles of wine to each guest. Each guest can drink their own bottle of wine at dinner and they also will have a souvenir of the day.

Companies have created extensive wine lists so finding your favorite year of Merlot should not be too hard. When choosing a wine consider what you are serving for the meal and try and match the wine with the chosen dish. If you are serving steak and fish you might want to purchase red and white wine to let your guests choose their wine according to their meal or, you could let each guest have one bottle of each wine per person. This would give each guest a bottle of wine to drink at the dinner and one to take home.

Most companies also offer individual serving champagne bottles in addition to personalized wine bottles. These are great favors and make toasting the newlyweds a lot of fun. The popping of hundreds of corks at the toast is such a wonderful sound and can be a great memory for the bride and groom.

You personalize the bottle labels according to your design or, more commonly, the company presents you with a selection of templates that you choose and then personalize. You include your names and the date of your wedding and then the company offers other customizable elements. Some companies will print a photograph on the label so take your favorite picture of you two and bring it with you when you customize your label. Another popular option companies offer is putting the groom’s family crest on the label. Companies that offer this generally will research the heraldic crest for you and arrange it on the label. Checking the design of the crest before having it printed on your label is a wise choice. Arriving at your reception and finding that you dislike the crest is no fun and can put a damper on your day. Giving wine bottles as wedding favors make design of the label almost limitless. Some couples like to make a humorous label, but care should be taken when choosing the path of humor. Years later when you are going through your wedding pictures and keepsakes what you thought was hilarious then might not be funny anymore. The safest road is to make a more traditional choice.
