Although planning a wedding is an exhilarating
experience, it can also be quite intimidating. Don’t
let your long “to-do” list overwhelm you. By
following some basic guidelines, your day is sure to be
fabulous!
There are some important choices that need to be addressed
first:
Choose at least three potential wedding dates. Sometimes
choosing the location of both ceremony and reception will
dictate the date of the event, as there may not be many
dates where both places are available.
-
Choose the location and time of the ceremony. Choose
a couple of churches, temples or other ceremony venues
and book them as quickly as possible. It is easier to
cancel one of them than to try to scrounge up another
one if your first choice isn’t available.
Choose the location and time of the reception. Gather
a few choices for your reception. Choose the reception
hall from those that have the same date available as your
ceremony site.
Choose your photographer. Don’t be surprised or
discouraged if you have to call a few photographers before
you find one available for your date.
Other Recommendations:
Prepare ahead as much as possible so everything does not
pile up on you as the wedding date nears. If you plan ahead
well, as the day draws closer and your stress level runs
higher, you will have less to do. Here are some tips to
help you along:
Prepare your guest list as quickly as possible, giving
your guests a chance to save the date and make travel
and lodging arrangements.
Make honeymoon arrangements three to four months in
advance, ensuring availability and the best possible rates.
Have your honeymoon coincide with your bridal registry,
allowing guests the option of helping with the honeymoon
as a wedding gift.
Choose ceremony and reception décor and flowers
at least one month in advance.
Weddings can get quite expensive quickly. Here are a few
tips to keep track of the money being spent:
Pay all deposits with a charge card. You can easily
track expenses when they are spelled out for you on your
monthly statement. It is also easier to have a charge
from a credit card removed if it becomes necessary. Deposits
by check sometimes end up in court if you want them returned
to you.
Do not pay a deposit without a contract. If you have
not been provided what was agreed upon in the contract,
it will be easier to have the deposit taken off.
Many of your friends and family would love to help you,
if you would only ask. Don’t be afraid to enlist help
with any and all wedding plans.
Be sure to include the groom in decisions for the big
day. Learning to work together is a valuable skill for
any couple!
If you have already chosen your wedding party, you have
all the help you could ever want at your fingertips!
Remember that there are countless resources at your
disposal as you plan for your big day. In addition to
wedding planning software, there are many helpful web
