For many couples the most important day in their relationship
is, of course, their wedding day. During this special occasion,
the wedding reception will generally be the busiest part,
as this is where the majority of activities take place.
Because of the importance of the reception, it is best to
carefully plan the theme and design to be used in the reception
hall, since this will affect the overall look and feel wedding
reception. If carefully planned and well executed, the wedding
reception can make the wedding much more memorable and enjoyable.
During the planning stage for the design, there are a few
things that need consideration, such as the number of guests
that will be attending, the size of your reception hall,
wedding traditions, and a theme if one is going to be used.
The number of guests will determine the amount of seating
needed, which can affect the types and arrangement of the
seating to be used. These arrangements need to be structured
around the overall size and space of the reception hall,
as there needs to be plenty of room for movement, as well
as any other planned activities. There are also many different
traditions associated with wedding receptions, and these
will need considering while planning the reception. Weddings
can be planned around such traditions, or the traditions
can be modified to suit the couple and their chosen guests.
What will the theme be? This needs to be decided early in
the planning process, as the decorations and design will
be based around the theme. Will it be seasonal, traditional,
or maybe fantasy? With your theme, the possibilities are
endless.
Most reception designs will be focused on two primary elements;
floral arrangements and the centerpiece. These decorations
will be crucial in making the design match the theme. If
the theme is based on the season, use designs that represent
that season. For example, a Spring theme might use bright,
colorful flowers, while an Autumn theme might make use of
leaf designs in red, orange, and brown.
Floral arrangements are generally handled by professional
florists, as the wedding day is going to be a very busy
occasion, and you may not have time to get everything set
up. The size of the reception hall will need to be taken
into consideration here, as a larger hall may require large,
tall floral arrangements, while a smaller hall might use
more moderation in the size and placements of the arrangements.
The floral arrangements can be used to fill space, and for
making a bold statement, if needed. An idea to consider
is placing a vase of water on each bridesmaid table to hold
her bouquet. This will not only preserve the flowers, but
if planned properly, can be included in the design for the
table decorations.
The centerpiece will be the most important part of the
decorations, and as such, should be planned with great care.
This decoration will bring everything in your theme together.
If your theme makes use of roses, maybe a floating rose
centerpiece would be a good idea. Start by using a large,
glass container, preferably clear, and filling it with water.
Next, place floating candles in the water, preferably rose
shaped, though a plain design will work as well. When choosing
the candles, try to use pink or red, however other colors
will be fine if they better suit your theme. Finally, sprinkle
rose petals over the centerpiece, in the water, and on the
table top. If you do not want to use real petals, artificial
petals can be obtained from various places, like candle
shops or wedding supply stores. Artificial petals are made
of a silk –like material, called acetate.
