Your wedding will, by far, be the most significant event
in your life (especially if it's your first one). It's a
time when you should feel upbeat, positive and excited.
However, the planning of the event (and all the events surrounding
it) is something that requires a lot of effort and planning
in order to achieve the vision that you have in your mind.
There's a huge amount of work involved and it can get overwhelming
at times.
Having said that, there are some ways to make it less overwhelming
if you find that you don't have the necessary manpower or
time. For those who can shell out the money, you can hire
an agency to do most of this work for you. There are professional
photographers, decorating companies, caterers, bakers, etc.;
all ready and willing to help you make your wedding truly
memorable. And then of course, perhaps most importantly,
you don't have to do the planning yourself; you can hire
a professional planner to make all of the calls and appointments
for you.
A wedding planner is the person who serves as the mediator,
facilitator, organizer and money manager for your wedding
events. Some are, of course, more affordable than others
but then, some have better reputations for quality than
others. A wedding planner will charge either a percentage
of the entire wedding budget, or in some cases, they charge
a flat fee. If they charge a percentage of your budget,
they'll normally have a clause for each extra item they
do for the wedding. Wedding planners are ideal for those
who have less time than they have money and can afford to
invest some of the money to save time.
Many people, of course, opt to do the planning chores themselves.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you wind up
with the satisfaction that you created your perfect dream.
Of course, you have a better chance of ensuring that the
wedding and reception reflect exactly your vision and not
the vision of someone else who really has no emotional investment
in the event.
Still, some brides take an honest look at their abilities
and they understand that theirs is not the creative mind
necessary to truly pull off a magnificent wedding. Or else
they know that their frazzled nerves would not hold up well
through the process. They should first consider whether
friends and family could help them get through the rough
spots in the planning process. For many, even this is not
an option. For them, a professional planner is a viable
option.
So here's the bottom line: Give the subject of hiring a
professional planner a lot of thought before you decide
to hire a professional planner. Ultimately, remember that
this is the most important day of your life and you'll want
the planning process to make it something truly memorable.
In the future, when you think back, you want happy memories,
not memories of all the headaches the wedding brought you. |
