Scrapbooking and Your Wedding Invitations

Embellishments are an amazing way to dress up a scrap page so why not try the same methods with an invitation. Ribbon, available in a wide range of widths, textures, colors, patterns and edging, can be tied at the top in a elegant bow or fastened in a knot and left as a tassel. Ribbon is versatile in its use because it's flexible, easily fastened and simple to weave, knot and tie and coordinates easily with wedding colors and themes.

Precision cut pieces, like lettering, paper edges and cutouts, adds a visual depth to the paper. Monograms or single initials can be cut from a selected font with a razor or Exacto knife and placed at the top or bottom of the invite. This monogram or lettering can be used throughout the paper products like the reply card and program as well as on the cake or favors.

Punches, available in hundreds of shapes, sizes, letters and images, can add a lighthearted whimsical touch to an invite. Punches can be wedding-themed, such as bells, rings and doves or location specific like palm trees, suns and flip-flops.

Embossing, another great scrapping technique, is done by using a metal rounded-tip tool and forming the paper around a raised patter. Tools and patterns range in sizing and depth of emboss. Shapes, letters, images and borders can be embossed for a truly textured look.

Images, such as a photo of the bride and groom or a picture of the location, can be manipulated through almost any photo program and turned into a great background. Graying out the images by adjusting the color saturation, turning the pic black and white or sepia or even utilizing a monochromatic image, can really personalize an invitation.

Many scrapbook pages feature a theme of color, fibers, fabric, paper, images or even specific words. This technique can be carried over to invites as well. For example, if the invite has a red satin ribbon tasseled to it, the reply card can utilize red ink or insert it into a red-lined envelope. If a patterned paper is used for the invite, then a small ½ inch or inch border of that pattern can be used on the reply card as well. A punch can be used to carry the theme throughout being used on the invite and the outside of the envelope.

A hand-made wedding invitation is the perfect way to create exclusive elegant invites without the outrageous expense. Framed, they also make great gifts for parents of the couple and as home décor.
