How to choose a Great Wedding Reception Hall

Before you send the first invitation or order the first flower you need to think about the kind of atmosphere you want to have at your wedding reception. What type of ambiance you are trying to create.

There are many questions you have to ask yourself before you make that final selection of a hall.

Is the venue available on the date you selected ? If the wedding is in the summer does the venue carry that summer theme throughout the facility. The same holds true for a winter / Christmas wedding . Is the theme throughout the facility.

Are there any other weddings or events going on at the same time that might cause a conflict.

Will the Hall hold all your guests comfortably? Can the facility handle children?

What is the rental fee? Do you have to give a deposit? How far in advance is the deposit do?

What does this fee include?

Are there any extra charges for linen, corkage, tables or chairs?

Can you hire your own caterer? Do they supply any food or alcohol on the premises? Is there a charge for bringing your own alcohol? Is there a stove the caterer can use?

Are there enough electrical outlets for the caterer and the band?

How early in the day can you access the facility?

Are you free to decorate in a manner you choose? Does the facility have a Event Planner on staff?

Is there enough parking to accommodate all your guests.

Will management be on site if any problems should arise?

During the wedding reception will I be able to control the temperature in the hall?

Will the Hall accommodate the type of dancing that will be done ex. square dancing

Will the facility handle any and all permits that may be needed?

Are there any time limitations on the music?

Is the facility handicapped accessible ? Will seniors be able to get around ?

Are valuables and equipment covered by insurance ? If not what type of insurance is needed?

Do I have to supply my own clean-up crew?

If this is not a hotel, how far is the nearest hotel ? How many rooms would be available in a five mile radius.

What percentage of a deposit is required?

Last but not least What is the cancellation policy?

This is, of course, not at all an exhaustive list. These are simply the questions that most couples will want answered for most weddings. But each wedding and each couple is different. For that reason, you should use this as only a guide to get you started. You should also spend some time thinking about your own unique needs--and come up with your own questions.

Before you sign on the dotted line take some time away from the facility to review the contract so there is no pressure involved in your decision. At the end of the day, make sure you are happy with your decision, the facility and the staff.
